COVID-19 case numbers

The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District currently reports confirmed, probable and suspected COVID-19 cases.

State, federal guidelines on case definitions, testing and deaths

The Caller-Times has excluded “historic cases” – positive test results reported by the state, but after significant delays – from the visualizations. .

Cases

Hospitalizations

State officials have identified hospitalizations as a more certain indication of COVID-19 spread than the number of positive tests.

The graphs below illustrate the number of patients in local hospitals, broken out by the number of patients being treated in the intensive care unit.

The two time periods show larger scale and smaller scale trends -- one set includes data from June 2020 to present, while the second set includes data from April 2021 to present.

Deaths

The number of fatalities are considered also by experts as an indicator of spread, lagging several weeks after infection.
