South Texas native, Calallen graduate and now recognized artist and musician Nik Parr, from the Selfless Lovers, will  return to perform in Corpus Christi.

Parr moved to Austin over eight years ago to pursue a marketing degree from the University of Texas. What started out as a fun creative outlet to play music with friends evolved to a new career as a well-known artist and musician. Parr uses his marketing skills to promote his band, The Selfless Lovers.

Parr regularly plays at Antone's and the Continental.

"2020 was supposed to be the strong Texas tour playing throughout the state, but the pandemic detoured some of those efforts," Parr said. "I think 2020 has made us all appreciate life more and the band is looking forward to playing live as much as we can."

During the slower and quieter time of the pandemic, the band created and produced a new album. As fate would have it, Earl Parr, Nik's father, was hanging out, having a cold beverage at the Executive Surf Club when he happened to strike up a conversation with Ryan Joseph, owner of 5th Street Studios in Austin.

The chance encounter between Earl and Joseph led the band to a new album with a unique sound produced and recorded by associate Nick Joswick.

"It's weird how life works out sometimes. 5th Street Studios is like going back in time," Nik added. "The album has a late 70's feel and was recorded in a style paralleled to that era. The band used zero computer equipment and created a unique live sound of our own, that reflects a time period of music that I love."

The band plans to continue a strong Texas tour for 2021, now with fresh material from the new album. Dates have been set for live shows in Florida and Alabama. As the pandemic starts to wind down, the band plans to hit the road and play live beyond the Texas borderlines.

"I love to play live," he said. "That's my deal. I love it, and I find it interesting how our songs affect people the same no matter what city we play in. Music brings people together."
