Here are 50 El Paso-area high school football players to watch in 2021

Here is a look at the top 50 high school football players to watch for the 2021 season. The start of the season is Aug. 26.

Jeremiah Cooper, senior, DB/WR, Andress High School

Of note: One of the city's top players has verbally committed to Iowa State.

Tavorus Jones, senior, RB, Burges High School

Of note: The standout running back has verbally committed to Missouri.

Steven Powers, senior, LB/RB, Franklin High School

Of note: Powers has verbally committed to Army West Point.

LJ Martin, junior, RB, Canutillo High School

Of note: One of the city's top athletes, getting Division I interest.

Andrew Martinez, senior, QB, Eastwood High School

Of note: Passed for nearly 1,800 yards and 21 touchdowns last season.

Tyrone McDuffie, junior, OL, Parkland High School

Of note: The top offensive lineman in town, garnering Division I interest. 

Elijah Uribe, senior, RB, Eastlake High School

Of note: Will be key to Eastlake's success and played a major role in helping the team to playoffs in 2020.

Yamil Oaxaca, senior, WR, Montwood High School

Of note: Will lead the Montwood receivers this season and will be one of the best in the city as well as the region.

Angel Munoz, junior, QB, Riverside High School

Of note: A team leader under center will be one of the top QB's in the city.

Jacob Quijas, senior, QB, Horizon High School

Of note: Passed for 1,095 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. 

Horizon High School quarterback Jacob Quijas is one of El Paso's top quarterbacks and looks to lead the Scorpions back to the playoffs.

Dominic Calderon, junior, LB, Del Valle High School

Of note: Will help anchor the Conquistadores defense. 

Ernie Garcia, senior, RB, Horizon High School

Of note: 102 Carries for 969 Yards in 6 Games in 2020

Jayden Wilson, junior, LB/RB, Austin High School

Of note: Will be a leader for the Panthers, who have emerged as a consistent winner in recent years. 

Jose Guardado, junior, RB, Riverside High School

Of note: The team's top running back and very explosive. 

Xavier Johnson, junior, RB, Hanks High School

Of note: An explosive back, will help Knights battle for playoff berth in Class 5A 

Isaiah Edgerton, senior, RB/DB, Socorro High School

Of note: Arguably the team's top player, recently picked up an offer from New Mexico Highlands. 

Timothy Pastran, senior, WR/DB, Chapin High School

Of note: Will give the Huskies an experienced playmaker. 

Cole Heincy, senior, WR/LB, Cathedral High School

Of note: One of the top players for Cathedral, will make an impact at linebacker. 

Jacob Nieto, senior, TE/DE, Bel Air High School

Of note: Nieto gives the Highlanders some size and is a good athlete on both sides of the ball. 

Gael Ochoa, sophomore, QB, Pebble Hills High School

Of note; An up-and-coming young quarterback in town and it will be interesting following his progress.  

Malachi Do, senior, RB/DB, Andress High School

Of note: Has tremendous speed, will give the Eagles a big-time playmaker. 

Isaiah Rudison, senior, RB, El Dorado High School

Of note: Is a team leader for first-year coach Frank Martinez

Damian Espinoza, senior, LB, Andress High School

Of note: A leader on defense for the Eagles. 

Daniel Sanchez, senior, OL, Andress High School

Of note: Will make a major impact on the offensive line up front for Eagles. 

Dylan Ivey, senior, DE, Clint High School

Of note: A talented defensive end who will cause havoc for opposing offenses. 

Erik Marin, senior, RB/LB, Pebble Hills High School

Of note: Had 409 yards rushing and 187 yards receiving

Sam Lopez, senior, RB, Eastwood High School

Of note:  Will give the Troopers a major threat out of the backfield. 

Ralph Castaneda, junior, OL, Americas High School

Of note: Will be a leader up front for the Trailblazers, who pride themselves on having strong frontline play.  

Mark Moore, sophomore, QB, Americas High School

Of note: An intriguing prospect for the Trailblazers, looked good in summer 7-on-7 in helping the team to the state tournament. 

Damian Portillo, senior, OL, Eastlake High School

Of note: A three-year starter for the Falcons. 

Caleb Emery, junior, DL, Eastlake High School

Of note: A veteran player and will be one of the team's top playmakers. 

Nathan Alcala, QB, Jefferson High School

Of note: Had more than 1,200 yards of total offense last season

Michael Kiesel, junior, LB, Parkland High School

Of note: Finished last season with 111 tackles, one sack, and four passes defended as a sophomore. 

John Knutson, senior, QB, Irvin High School

Of note: Gives Rockets a veteran leader, helped guide team to playoffs last year. 

Devin Granados, Senior, QB, Canutillo High School

Of note: Granados will be looked at to lead Eagles back to playoffs. 

Sam Valadez, senior, OL, Montwood High School

Of note: A leader on arguably the top offensive line in the city. 

Tristan Escobedo, senior, QB, Coronado High School

Of note: Will be key if the Thunderbirds are to challenge for a playoff berth. 

Shay Smith, sophomore, DB/QB, Franklin High School

Of note: A talented young player who the Cougars will find a place for on the field. 

Mike Ibarra, senior, WR, Tornillo High School

Of Note: Ibarra caught 42 passes last year for 936 yards.

Of note: A major playmaker for the Wildcats and will lead the offensive attack

Of note: Caught 38 passes in 2020.

Of note: Will be a major threat on offense for Conquistadores. 

Kevin Melendez, senior, QB, Montwood High School

Of note: Threw for 16 touchdowns a season ago. 

Caleb Montes, senior, LB, Montwood High School

Of note: Will help anchor the defense this season. 

Brandon Noris  senior, LB, Americas High School

Of note: Americas has a history of talented linebackers. Noris fits that mold. 

Bryan Mena, senior, LB, Ysleta High School

Of Note: Mena gives team veteran leadership on defense. 

Octavio Ornelas, senior, OL, Horizon High School

Of note: Has been on the varsity team since he was a freshman.  

Junior Saucedo, senior, QB, Mountain View High School

Of note: Will be key to the Eagles' success this season. 

Miguel Delgado, senior, RB, Fabens High School

Note: Will be a key if Fabens wants to make the playoffs.
