Among the top six football teams in District 1-6A, Franklin, Eastlake, Americas, Pebble Hills, Montwood and Eastwood, there have been close games in the first three weeks of district play.

Friday's matchup between No. 2 Eastlake and No. 6 Eastwood at the SISD Student Activities Complex figures to be another close game in what should be a pivotal game for both teams.

The Troopers and Falcons are this week's El Paso Times' Game of the Week and kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. as part of a doubleheader at the SAC.

Eastlake's Eiljah Uribe (7) during the game against Franklin, Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at Franklin High School in El Paso.

Eastlake is 2-1 in district play and is coming off a loss to Franklin last Friday, its first of the season. Eastwood, which was the preseason No. 1-ranked team in El Paso, is 1-2 in district after holding off Montwood, 33-27, last week. Prior to the Montwood win, the Troopers lost by one point to Pebble Hills and eight to Franklin.

The Falcons will look to turn the tables defensively against Eastwood. Against Franklin, Eastlake gave up 46 points in the 46-22 loss and it was the first time this season it has allowed more than 14 points in a game.

Eastwood will present a challenge for Eastlake's defense with a powerful offense. The Troopers scored 33 against Montwood, 47 against Franklin, 75 against Hanks and 35 against Parkland.

Eastlake and Eastwood also boast two of the top offensive players in the city. Eastlake running back Elijah Uribe has hurt opponents not only with his legs, but passing and catching the ball. Eastwood quarterback Andrew Martinez has already passed for 2,019 yards in six games.
