High School Baseball: Calallen sweeps Navarro to advance to regional final
SAN ANTONIO –– Calallen pitcher Justin Lamkin pitched seven shut out innings and struck out nine to lead the Wildcats to a 6-0 win in Game 2 and sweep a Class 4A regional semifinal series on Friday at St. Mary's University.
Calallen, which won Game 1 9-4 on Thursday, advanced to the Region IV-4A final to play the winner of the Sinton-Tuloso-Midway series. Sinton leads the series 1-0 after a win on Thursday and continued on Friday. An if necessary Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday.
It is the Wildcats' first regional final appearance since 2015.
The Wildcats (29-3-1) scored three of their eight runs in the first inning to back Lamkin, who only allowed four hits and threw 59 of his 84 pitches for strikes.
AJ Yepez and Luke Smith combined for four of the club's eight hits. Yepez and Brayden Sprencel combined for five RBI to lead Calallen offensively.
